Judge Charles Elloie to Retire in Disgrace

Criminal Court Judge Charles Elloie, infamous for letting criminals free for little or no bail, will retire on July 1. Good riddance. "This closes the chapter on one of the most embarrassing tenures of judicial misconduct in the history of the city of New Orleans," said Rafael Goyeneche, president of the Metropolitan Crime Commission, a nonprofit watchdog group that for years criticized Elloie's judgment in setting bail that typically amounted to a free pass out of jail. Now, if we can get rid of Judge Arthur Hunter, the City will be even safer.
